Fredrick Bain Baker Jr. was born Friday, August 15, 1941 in Grand Meadow, MN to Frederick Bain and Ann Marie (Doole) Baker. He attended school in Rochester, MN, and graduated from the Rochester High School in 1958, he then enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and was stationed with the 1st Marine Division stationed at Camp Pendleton, CA as an Amphibian Tractor Crewman. He was honorable discharged with the rank of Private First Class in 1962. After his military service, Rick moved back to Rochester and worked for a local food processing plant and as an orderly for the Mayo Clinic. He then moved to Waverly, IA and worked as a carpenter and at a crane manufacturing plant, and then to Shell Rock, IA where he worked for John Deere for many years. He met Dorothy Ann Jones in 1993 in Nashua, IA. They were married on June 26, 1994 in New Hampton, IA. They moved to Rockaway Beach, MO in 2005 and Rick owned and operated the RB VAC and Sewing in Forsyth.
He enjoyed fishing, boating, gardening, reading maps, tinkering , watching TV. His favorites were the History Channel and NCSI. He also collected Garfield the cat memorabilia, but he was especially fond of riding his trike and was a member of the Brothers of the Third Wheel, Route 66 Chapter. Rick was a very strong willed man who was never afraid to express his opinion. He liked to believe that he was always right and could be a little stubborn sometimes. But he was a very kind hearted man that loved to talk and had a great sense of humor and the energy of a teenager. Rick never let his age get in the way of anything he did. Most of all he was a loving husband, father and grandfather and friend to all.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy Baker of Rockaway Beach; two sons, Rick Baker III and wife, Jena of Santa Rosa, CA, and Brent Johnson of Mason City, IA; three daughters, Tina Hudson and husband, David of Lafayette, CO, Kim Baker, and Danielle Johnson of Rockaway Beach; two sisters, Carrie Bartel of Rockford, IL and Marie Clausen and husband, David of Rochester, MN, and five grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Fredrick "Rick" B . Baker Jr., 69 of Rockaway Beach, died Wednesday, February 2, 2011 at his residence. A memorial service with complete military honors will be held in April.
Thank you every one for your thoughts and prayers I will post his obituary when we get it and let everyone know when we are definitely having a memorial. I want to share with you what my brother sent me about Rick his words really hit home.
I am sad to report that my brother-in-law and good friend Rick Baker passed away on the night of Feb 01. He was a very active individual with quite a zest for life. He loved fishing, motorcycling, his wife, and meeting people, chatting and life in general. For years he has been my main source for e-mails and a lot of entertainment which I have passed along for others to enjoy. He lived at Rock-away Beach, Mo. He also was a generous individual taking time to take My wife and I to many shows in Branson, Mo. I am sad for my little sister who has lost her husband of many years. It really has to be hard. He and Dorothy, his wife, also had visited us when passing through DM several times. He will be missed by all who new and loved him. So sad for your loss Dorothy, may god bless you. Bob J
