It was a glorious day in 2005 that I drove to Rockaway Beach to see my niece, and Lo and Behold, I saw trikes everywhere. I had never seen those homemade trikes before, and I loved them. I got home, got on ebay and spotted a trike I "just had to have". I tracked it for days, night and day, and the Good Lord let me be the winning bidder. I live in Missouri, but I was in Louisiana the next morning waiting for the fella to wake up. He said, boy, you're sure anxious.. And I was.. I rode bikes for over 40 years, but getting my trike was a wonderful transformation in our lives, and we found out about BTW and joined.. Loved it, and still do... Commodore and Sherryl
DUE TO THE PENDING RETIREMENT OF OUR EXECUTIVE DIRECTORS Your BOARD OF DIRECTORS would like to take this opportunity to thank Jim & Lady for the 30 long years of dedication and loyalty to all the members of BTW. Although we all knew this day had to come, none of us wanted to face it. But it is here and your Board has a responsibility to face it and make sure that BTW not only continues, but also thrives and grows as there are an abundance of new trikers out there looking to belong somewhere and that needs to be The Brothers of the Third Wheel. Since being notified by Jim and Lady of their pending retirement, the Board has been working diligently evaluating all their options and working together to come up with a plan for their replacement. That plan has been developed, approved and implemented and is well underway as you read this. With the help and cooperation already committed by Jim and Lady to make this a smooth transition, we are confident of the future of BTW and believe you will be too, as the plans take shape. 1. BTW will be operated by an Executive Team consisting of 2 Directors and a Chairman. 2. The Chairman will be responsible for hiring a FULL TIME EMPLOYEE to be available during business hours at a location with the current PHONE NUMBER and current EMAIL contact points. 3. This employee will have continuous contact with the Executive Team. These Directors will be responsible for the day to day activities of BTW. This plan was developed and put into place to ensure that the BTW membership will always have continuous representation both now and in the future.
THE CHAIN OF INFORMATION WILL BE AS FOLLOWS: EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE answers to the (BOARD MEMBERS) REGIONAL DIRECTORS at pre-determined intervals, they in turn answer to the STATE DIRECTORS as required, who in turn answer to the CHAPTER DIRECTORS as required, who in turn answer to YOU, THE MEMBERSHIP

We, the Executive Directors, would like to congratulate the Board, who have all worked hard to implement this plan on your behalf and thank them for stepping up to represent you, the members, when it was so desperately needed . AND AGAIN THANK YOU JIM & LADY FOR ALL YOU HAVE DONE FOR BTW WE WILL ALWAYS BE IN YOUR DEBT
It is not without difficulty and many mixed emotions that Lady and I have made the decision to try retirement again. As you know, I founded BTW in 1983 with Lady joining me in 1984. We retired from our position in 2000 and took the reins back over in 2003. With this being our 30th TRIKE WEEK, we felt it was the right time to bow out gracefully and turn our baby, whom has become a part of who we are, over to new and enthusiastic hands. The Board of Directors have talked extensively about this and have decided, for now, to have a three-person committee of Board members taking over the operation of BTW. You can be assured, they have BTWs best interest in their hearts and, although it will be different, the core operational procedure and running of BTW will remain the same. We have every confidence that these knowledgeable members will take our organization to a new level and move it into the future as smoothly as possible. We want to thank you all for your continued support of our family of trikers and hope you will stay with it and watch it continue to flourish. We will stay afloat through these tough economic times and come out better than ever in the future. Too many hours, tears, dollars and mostly love, have gone into this unusual family and we will be in the background to help with any problems that may arise during the transition to a new set of Executive Directors. We will be at TRIKE WEEK with bells on and have a wonderful week planned for all of you with new rides, entertainment and events. We are hopeful hugs will be all around and fond memories will be part of your good-byes. Donna graduates and will be moving back to Washington after TW and we thank her for her hard work and expert handling of most of the office operation. We will be putting out the July TRIKER and turning over our books and office and training during that time. Our last official day will be July 31st. There arent words right now to express our pride in what BTW has become and also our sadness to turn it over to someone else, but everything has a start, a middle and an ending, and for BTW it is just the beginning of a new chapter starting with a bright and promising future.
