Commodore - All the truck stops are gone from Brookfield now. At one time I washed dishes in the one you visited. I believe the deer are still there though. Seems the guy who imported the deer didn't read the fine print. He could import the deer but he couldn't sell them, either on the hoof or as meat. The only thing he found they were good for was renting them out at Christmas. I am surprised they are still there after all these years. Maybe he wasn't allowed to keep them from breeding either. The guys name was Hahn and, at one time, he was the Rambler dealer in Brookfield. Guess that business venture didn't turn out to well for him either.
I used to truck through Brookfield all the time in the late 60's and early 70's. Stopped at the skelly truck stop on the west side of town. Used to see the Japanese deer there all the time..lol
When my Dad died, he lived in Brookfield, MO. Dad loved his coffee but it wasn't until then that we found out that Dad belonged to 4 different coffee clubs in Brookfield that met daily in different restaurants. No wonder he never got anything done. RIP Dad. Hope they have lots of coffee where you are now.
I recall as a kid always ordering tuna salad, chicken salad or such. It just always tasted great.. Makes me feel younger just thinking about it... hee hee hee
Sad news, Walgreens now owns Ava Drug. Good news, they are going to continue the tradition of the nickel ice cream cone. Maybe it will catch on with Walgreen stores nationwide. By the way, coffee is also a nickel with free refills. When I go there, the waitress can always count on a 95 cent tip and the coffee is still a bargain at $1.
Hey Commodore, We do that ride quite alot. A nickel a scoop & the food is good also. That's why I offered to buy Jim a three scooper for 15 cents. Even if the Lady has one, I'm only out 30 cents. Worth the ride
I saw a spread in the newspaper about a drug store in Ava that rebuilt his dining counter with stools, and sells ice cream cones for a nickel. Pretty cool to have someone do that. We should have a ride there some day for a cone!!
Thanks guys, I sure owe Jim for all the time on the phone walkin me through the autostick part. Jim, when Barb & I come to Ava, I'll buy ya'll a three scooper ice cream at the drug store. Hope that'll cover the expense of your time
Nice job Dale! I have always found that deciding what a trike is to look like is about as hard as actually building it. I would say you did an excellent job on both counts! Keep up the great work.
It's finely done & new owner picked it up this morn for fathers day. Possum Pride body cut down to install fatbob tanks. Reserve tank under fatbobs opperated by selenoid change over switch. Body has a lift system. Autostick tranny. I had Jim on retainer to finnish this build.
